"A vocalist whose voice has been likened to velvet Tones
& Dark Chocolate on a lovers tongue"
Canberra at the Yacht club
The wonderfully entertaining Pearlnoire, captivated us when she fronted and sung with the Lemon Squeezin Daddies at the 2010 Australian Blues Festival. So much so, we just had to get her to Canberra. This 'Empress of jazz, blues and cool' will have you in her palm with her powerhouse voice, cheeky charm and magnetic presence on stage. From the Illawarra, stepping out with her duo with Mark Clifford on piano for first time in Canberra at the Yacht club. The bios follow: Pearl Noire (Black Pearl)-alias Joi is a new face and voice to the Illawarra who hails from the UK and in particular the East London area. She is a vocalist whose voice has been likened to velvet tones and Dark Chocolate on a lovers tongue. Blues Bessie mama and Black magic diva are a few terms also used recently in reviews about her debut CD "Aint all Blues" one review called it ‘note tight’. Pearlnoire has been a professional vocalist and interactive diva for the last nine years
starting with a jazz
and rhythm and blues band which included a host of talented musicians covering a range of jazz
standards and 50’s, 60’s, 70’s
RnB songs. She performed extensively in the UK and as a natural entertainer.
Mark Clifford:- Keyboards.
Mark has played keyboards for over 30 years and has played in a variety of
bands and music projects in the Wollongong and Sydney area. Over the past few
years he has worked extensively with a variety of talented female vocalists in
jazz and contemporary styles in many five star venues in Sydney and even an
overseas international stint in the Middle-East in a jazz trio. His background
and appreciation of music has weaved between contemporary, jazz, rock, funk and
RnB idioms and he continues to enjoy playing music of all styles.
IJC Supper Club,
Armondo Hurley & Pearlnoire
Last Friday, around 72 of us, ventured along to the City
Beach Function Centre for the IJC Supper Club featuring Armondo and Pearl. It
was great to have Armondo back in Wollongong and once again, he wowed the crowd
with his vocal brilliance and instead of bringing his usual
"Funkomatics" band, we were shocked and very pleased to see that he
was backed by Andrew Oh (Sax & Flute), Dave Smith (Guitar) and a man I had
only met on the night, Aldo Alibrandi on piano. What an outstanding band.
A slight disappointment for me and many others I spoke with on the night
was that I was hoping to hear much more of Pearl’s singing, but I guess Armondo
was the "star" of the show, but they did do some lovely duets
together.

Barbara Morrison and Pearlnoire,
Kiama Jazz Club event.
On the 24th April, some of our members
ventured down to Kiama to check out Barbara Morrison, live in concert. One of
the audience members was local singing sensation, Pearlnoire, who actually got
up and sang some tunes with Barbara. Apparently, it went over very well with
both Barbara and the audience being very impressed with both of these
"Ladies of Jazz".
Well done Pearl!

Master Builders Club
Sunday afternoon jazz at the Master Builders Club is always great and on one Sunday in July 2009 was certainly no exception. Some wonderful sounds were coming forth from the quartet, Fusion, comprising of John Smith (lead guitar & vocals), Chris Bell (bass), Nerida Smith (keyboard) and Troy Lever (drums).Part way through the afternoon a guest vocalist was introduced and Pearlnoire took centre stage.
WOW!
is the word that comes to mind. Pearl’s big voice and personality soon had the audience eating out of her hand. Her great voice and Fusion continued to complement each other and we were treated to some tip-top entertainment.since arriving in our country,
Pearlnoire (originally from the UK), had been living over in Western Australia. Now that she has settled in the Illawarra we look forward to hopefully seeing and hearing lots more from her in the near future
